Communication complexity of byzantine agreement, revisited

چکیده
As Byzantine Agreement (BA) protocols find application in large-scale decentralized cryptocurrencies, an increasingly important problem is to design BA with improved communication complexity. A few existing works have shown how achieve subquadratic under adaptive adversary. Intriguingly, they all make a common relaxation about the adaptivity of attacker, that is, if honest node sends message and then gets corrupted some round, adversary cannot erase was already sent—henceforth we say such perform “after-the-fact removal”. By contrast, many (super-)quadratic literature can tolerate after-the-fact removal. In this paper, first prove disallowing removal necessary for achieving subquadratic-communication BA. Next, show new binary constructions (of course, assuming no removal) near-optimal resilience expected constant rounds standard cryptographic assumptions public-key infrastructure (PKI) both synchronous partially settings. comparison, known additional strong as random oracles or ability nodes secrets from memory, even these assumptions, prior work above properties. Lastly, setup assumption multicast-based

متن کاملResolving Message Complexity of Byzantine Agreement and beyond
Byzantine Agreement among processors is a basic primitive in distributed computing. It comes in a number of basic fault models: \Crash", \Omis-sion" and \Malicious" adversarial behaviors. The message complexity of the primitive has been known for the strong failure models of Malicious and Omission adversary since the early 80's, while the question for the more benign Crash failure model has bee...
متن کاملError-free Multi-valued Broadcast and Byzantine Agreement with Optimal Communication Complexity
In this paper we present first ever error-free, asynchronous broadcast (called as A-cast) and Byzantine Agreement (called as ABA) protocols with optimal communication complexity and fault tolerance. Our protocols are multi-valued, meaning that they deal with l bit input and achieve communication complexity of O(nl) bits for large enough l for a set of n ≥ 3t+1 parties in which at most t can be ...
متن کاملAsynchronous Byzantine Agreement with Optimal Resilience and Linear Complexity
Given a system with n > 3t+1 processes, where t is the tolerated number of faulty ones, we present a fast asynchronous Byzantine agreement protocol that can reach agreement in O(t) expected running time. This improves the O(n2) expected running time of Abraham, Dolev, and Halpern [1]. Furthermore, if n = (3 + ε)t for any ε > 0, our protocol can reach agreement in O(1/ε) expected running time. T...
